We end the first week of action with the first game between first round winners. And just like on opening day, we have a blockbuster game. And while it's a Friday, I'm sure the crowds came early to see one guy...
And that would be ace Nakayama from Narita, who shut down the vaunted Chiben Wakayama 2-1. He struck out 14, while giving up 6 hits and 1 walk. There's been no letdown since the Chiba final it appears. For Hachinohe Koudai, they'll have to worry about the entire top of the order.
Hachinohe Koudai Dai-ichi needed a late scoring surge to break the deadlock against Eimei. Ace Nakayama Yuuya did have one bad inning against Eimei, and he probably can't afford such an inning against Narita. Overall though, he struck out 8 while giving up 8 hits and issuing 3 walks. As for offensive output, look to #2 batter Fujita and #8 batter Ogasawara.
Interestingly, Hachinohe's starting 9 will send 6 lefties out against right Nakagawa. How will they fare?

16:24 - First Pitch!
Top 1st
Nakayama almost gets his 1-2-3 inning, if not for a short throw by Fujita that Tanaka couldn't pick from the dirt.
Narita tries the hit-and-run! But Kondou hits a chopper back to Nakayama who goes to 1st to end the inning.
Bottom 1st
Shimohata swinging on the first pitch and bouncing one past a diving Kimura into left!
Fujita showing bunt early, but then on the 1-1 pitch pulls it back and swings away! However, he lines it right to Katsuda for the 1st out.
Hasegawa-kantoku sends the game in motion! He sends Shimohata on the first pitch to Shuuhei! But Kondou makes a strong throw and they gun him down. 2 out, nobody on.
Full count, Nakagawa hits Shuuhei!
Now it's Oshima-kantoku who puts on the hit and run! But Tanaka hits a grounder to short. Fujits plays the hop and makes the throw to 1st for the 3rd out.
Top 2nd
Two quick outs for Nakayama, but then Katsuda gets Narita's first base hit with a single to left.
And then Nakayama hits Anzui! Runners on 1st and 2nd for Nakagawa!
He hits the ball back up the middle! Nakamura dives, but can't get it! It goes into center and Katsuda comes in to score! 1-0 Narita!
And apparently something might have happened with Nakamura's belt on the dive as he heads into the dugout. He emerges soon afterwards and we're back playing again.
Oogi grounds to 2nd to end the inning, but a hit batter helps give Narita the early lead.
Bottom 2nd
One down, and Nakamura gets under one. Seems routine, but Oka is running back to the wall! He reaches out his glove and it's over his head! He's in with a double!
Toyokawa with the push bunt! But he pops it up! Anzui with the catch and there's 2 down!
SANSHIN!
Ogasawara takes a pitch that rolls back in the inside corner for strike 3! Hachinohe leaves Nakamura stranded at 2nd!
Top 3rd
Oka with a drive to right center! That's in for extra bases! Oka going at full speed ahead heads to 3rd and slides in just ahead of the relay throw! Big pinch for Nakayama again!
Then he brushes Kaneko on the elbow! Runners on 1st and 3rd!
Kondou with a liner back to Nakayama! He can't catch it! It defects off his glove and towards 2nd! Fujita charges in and makes the play at 1st, but Oka comes in to score making it 2-0 Narita!
Nakayama issues his first walk to Takahashi. That brings up Kimura.
And now Nakayama walks Kimura! Manrui for Katsuta who singled to left in his first AB. There's still only 1 down.
Oshima-kantoku calls for a conference. Can't let it get away.
Ah, but it does! Katsuda with a drive to deep center! Shimohata runs to the wall, and it's off the bottom of the wall! Everyone comes in to score on Katsuda's double and it's 5-0!
Anzui with a ball off the end of his bat just lines one past Nakayama into center. That scores Katsuda making it 6-0!
Nakayama finally gets out the inning with 2 K's despite a wild throw to 2nd by Ogasawara on a steal attempt advancing Anzui to 3rd.
But Nakayama couldn't avoid the big inning after all, and Narita leads 6-0.
Bottom 3rd
Another quick inning for Nakagawa. Nakayama goes down swinging on 3 straight, Shiimohata grounds to 2nd, although Oogi did have a bit of a run to get to that one in the gap. And Anzui backhands a ball hit down the line by Fujita to end the inning,
Top 4th
Things continue to get worse for Hachinohe. Oka singles back up the middle to start the inning. Then with one down, Kondou lines one to left. Takahashi follows that up with a single back up the middle past a diving Nakamura. Oka has to hold at 3rd, creating yet another manrui situation.
Kimura with a drive to right. Shuuhei with the catch, but it's deep enough for Kondou and Oka to move up a base making it, 7-0.
Takahashi gets thrown out trying to steal 2nd, and the inning is over, but Narita continues to play add on.
Bottom 4th
Nakagawa looks like he's really settled down as he strikes out Shuuhei and Tanaka before Miyazaki lines one to right to end the inning.
Top 5th
Nakayama was in line to get a 1-2-3 inning, but Nakagawa decides to break that up with a double to left center.
But he's stranded there after Oogi hits a comebacker to Nakayama.
Bottom 5th
Nakamura with a liner that goes down the right field line! He's in with a leadoff double!
One down, Ogasawara with a single to center! Runners at the corners!
Nakayama follows that with a hit to the right side! AHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ball hits Ogasawara in the foot! He's out and Nakamura has to go back to 3rd!!
Shimohata finally delivers for Hachinohe! He singles through the right sode and Nakamura can finally go home! Hachinohe prevents the shutout here in the 5th! 7-1!
Fujita with a hard ball down the 3rd base line! It goes off Anzui and goes towards the bullpen! Funjita goes to 2nd with an RBI double! 7-2!
Shuuhei goes down swinging to end the inning, but they get on the board as we head to the break!
Top 6th
The lights come on at Koushien and the field umpires are added.
Kaneko with a liner past the outstretched glove of Nakayama and into center.
Oshima-kantoku puts on the hit and run, and Kondou hits a chopper to the left side! Toyokawa over runs it and by the time Fujita gets to it, everyone's safe!
Yakahashi with a sharp shot to right center, and that goes all the way to the wall. Both of the runners score on the double. Narita regains their 7 run lead at 9-2.
2 down and Nakayama seems to get out of the inning with a grounder to short. But Fujita bobbles the ball, and when he throws to 1st. it's high and off the glove of Tanaka. Takahashi scores making it 10-2.
Anzui flies out to right to end the inning, but Narita is making sure Hachinohe stays down.
Bottom 6th
Hachinohe has just about thrown in the towel here as they go down in order here in the 6th.
Top 7th
Nakayama finally gets a 1-2-3 inning of his own, but it's a small victory given the circumstances.
Bottom 7th
Small rally here for Hachinohe in the lucky 7. Toyokawa singles to left and then with one down, Nakayama singles past Nakagawa into center.
Unfortunately, neither Shimohara or Fuijta can get the runners home.
Top 8th
Nakayama is running through the Narita lineup, but that also may be as a result of Narita wanting to end the game as soon as possible to get the team some rest. Shimohata did make a nice catch at the wall on a Kaneko fly to help him out.
Bottom 8th
Shuuhei looked to have a base hit, when he hits a ball to the right side of 2nd, but Oogi makes a diving stop and throws to 1st for the out!
The next two batters go quietly and we head to the 9th
Top 9th
2 down for Nakayama, but he again gets himself into trouble. He walks Anzui, then gives up a base hit to Nakagawa. Fortunately, he gets Oogi to ground to 2nd. Nakamura tosses to 2nd to end the inning.
Bottom 9th
Last ups for Hachinohe...
And while Ogasawara and PH Kubota collect 2-out hits, Nakayama fittingly ends the game striking out Shimohata on a check swing.
Sadly for Hachinohe Koudai Dai-ichi, their Koushien run ends with a thud at the hands of Nakagawa and Narita. Hopefully, they'll have enjoyed their time here and have stories to tell back home.
Meanwhile, Narita's march to the best 8 looks all but secure now that the tough matches are out of the way. Nakagawa has to make sure he's still sharp when that time comes.
